The First National Bank of Bar Harbor, Maine was founded
in 1888 and
was given Federal Bank Charter No. 3941 by the US
government in
order to issue paper money.
The note shown on our page is from the Series of 1902 and is called a "Red Seal" for obvious reasons. The date of 1908 shown on the note refers to the 20 year rechartering of the bank's 3941, and the number "1" under the portrait on the note indicates this is the very first note issued in this series.
The First National Bank of Bar Harbor is still in business today, 119 years after it's original chartering.
We have 30 years of experience buying and selling
coins and paper money. Complete appraisal services. No collection is
too big or too small.
